Join the Middle Grade Book Challenge (now with new buttons!)

Hosting a reading challenge seems kind of fun. I thought I should give it a try. I haven't seen an MG challenge, but we're never too old to read children's books. I've got a couple of them lying around and some of us grown ups can use bedtime stories too, and lighter reads from time to time. Some of us have kids and others often feel like a kid, or we would like to be one all over again.

Guidelines for the Middle Grade Book Challenge
1. Anyone can join.

2. Read 12 middle grade novels (Challenge 1) or read 25 MG books (Challenge 2). You can read comics too, or listen to audio books. These can be in any language. You don't have to make a reading list now; you may select them as you go and you're free to make changes to your list.

3. The challenge begins September 1st, 2009 through August 31st, 2010.

4. You can join anytime between now and August 31st, 2010.

5. When you sign up with MckLinky right below, you will be redirected to another page. Type in your name, followed by the name of your blog. [e.g.: Linda Ellen (Bambi Reads)]. Then type in your blog's URL. Please follow these instructions or your link will be removed.

That's it!

On the 1st of every month, I will post a Mcklinky Blog Hop where you can post the link to your review and share it with others taking on this challenge. It's optional. I will post further instructions then. You can read one or two MG book a month, or have a readathon... it's up to you.

Pretty simple, isn't it? Just go with it and have fun. =)
You can check out a list of reading suggestions by clicking here.

Grab a button of your choosing to post on your sidebar to let everyone know you're taking on the challenge. I might make more buttons later on. I've added new penguin buttons! If you have any questions or suggestions, you can leave me a comment, or email me at lindanmc (at) gmail.com with the subject heading "MG Book Challenge."

This is a good idea!
How do you decide what a middle grade novel is?

I'm going to join, but I'll wait till after work to post the stuff to my blog. =)

I agree with Jenny, this is a great idea for a challenge!

Would middle grade be books recommended for kids around ages 8-12? I was looking up some of the titles on the B&N website and they were listing those kinds of age ranges for titles like Harry Potter and The Lightning Thief. I was guessing that this was the same thing?

Hi Jenny,
Hi Cynthia,

I'm so glad you're interested in joining. =)

Yes, middle grade books are those that are geared towards readers between the ages of 8 to 12. Some great titles/series include:

Harry Potter
Artemis Fowl
The Inheritance series (by Christopher Paolini)
The Hunger Games
The Immortals (by Alyson Noel)
Flush (Carl Hiaasen, author of Hoot)
The Land of Elyon
The 39 Clues
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians

and the list goes on. There are plenty of genres and some books are actually classified as MG, but we remember them as being YA. I guess there are some books that are in that 'in-between' area where the audience in mind is around 12/13.

I think I'll write a post later on with book suggestions. =)

I love YA and read it all the time. I'll think about this challenge. I've already joined one YA challenge, would I be able to count them twice?

I notice that it says it runs until August 31st. Is it supposed to be September or October? Just want to know for my 12 or 25 decision making. :O)

Linda Ellen, I don't see your most recent comment but my e-mail says it's there! I think the giveaway is a good idea... maybe something that will work for the giveaway?
